Valley Bakers Cooperative Association Named Bakery Operation of the Month for April 2010

West Allis, WI—Congratulations to Valley Bakers Cooperative Association (VBCA) located in Greenville, Wis.  VBCA was named the Bakery Operation of the Month for April 2010 from the Wisconsin Bakers Association (WBA).  The cooperative earned the honor for hosting the WBA’s Bakers Forum in April, which is a networking and educational event for WBA members and other baking industry representatives.

“Valley Bakers has been a long-time, active member of our association and always has been very supportive of the mission of the WBA,” WBA Executive Director Dave Schmidt said.  “We appreciate VBCA’s contributions not only to the WBA, but to the baking industry as a whole.  The employees set a great example for their fellow members.”

The cooperative was founded in 1949 by five independent bakers.  The idea was to combine member purchasing power and to warehouse and distribute products in the most economical way possible.  As a result, each customer would reduce the time spent with salesmen and decrease the time spent keeping track of multiple supplier accounts.  VBCA serves retail and wholesale bakers in the Western Great Lakes.  Visit www.valleybakers.com for more details.

Nominations for Bakery Operation of the Month are considered by the WBA throughout the year.  Selected operations must include the following criteria to be considered:  must be a WBA member in good standing; must have made non-monetary contributions to the bakery industry and Wisconsin Bakers Association; have something that qualifies the bakery as an outstanding business; and winner would agree to have the award publicized in the media.

In addition, winners of the Bakery Operation of the Month are considered for the Bakery Operation of the Year (BOY) award.  The first BOY award was given in 2001 to recognize an outstanding WBA member bakery operation.  The current Bakery Operation of the Year is Lane’s Bakery & Gift Shop in Madison, Wis.
