O&H Danish Bakery named Bakery Operation of the Month for October 2009
West Allis, WI—Congratulations to O&H Danish Bakery in Racine, Wis. The bakery was named the Bakery Operation of the Month for October 2009 from the Wisconsin Bakers Association (WBA). The business earned the honor for hosting the WBA’s Bakers Forum in October, which is a networking and educational event for WBA members and other baking industry representatives.
The bakery was established in 1949 by Christian Olesen, a Danish immigrant, and his partner Harvey Holtz. Brothers Eric, Dale and Mike Olesen currently own the business and are the third generation of family to run the business. The third generation of bakers involved in the business has now evolved to a fourth, as the children of Mike, Dale and Eric are involved with the business. The three brothers’ wives are also very involved with the business. There are two bakery locations in Racine.
Sixty years in business can change a lot. But there is one thing that has remained the same all these years. “’Taste, quality, and tradition have always been the focus of O&H Danish Bakery,” Eric Olesen said. “We always remain focused on these three core values when we bake, create, sell, and service our customers.”
Nominations for Bakery Operation of the Month are submitted to the WBA office for consideration. Selected operations must include the following criteria to be considered: must be a WBA member in good standing; must have made non-monetary contributions to the bakery industry and Wisconsin Bakers Association; have something that qualifies the bakery as an outstanding business; and winner would agree to have the award publicized in the media.
In addition, winners of the Bakery Operation of the Month are considered for the Bakery Operation of the Year (BOY) award. The first BOY award was given in 2001 to recognize an outstanding WBA member bakery operation. The current Bakery Operation of the Year is O&H Danish Bakery.
