Who is the WBA's Executive Director?

Dave Schmidt, the WBA's executive director, has been involved in the baking industry for more than 40 years and has been an active member of the Wisconsin Bakers Association since 1989.  Becoming the fourth Certified Master Baker (CMB) in the United States in 1989, he has experience in retail baking as well as the allied side of the industry.  He took over as the WBA's executive director in June 1999.

As WBA executive director his priorities include promoting baking education (including the scholarship programs offered through the WBA and serving on three technical school boards), and representing retail bakers on federal and state legislative and regulatory issues.  He also makes a point of visiting bakers in the field and is always willing to lend a friendly ear or provide advice when bakers consult him.  Need information on opening a bakery?  Or, are you looking for a formulation?  Give Dave a call at (800) 542-2688.

His baking industry experience includes professional baking, sales, allied support, business administration and association leadership.  Prior to taking the helm for the WBA, he worked 12 years for Multifoods Bakery Division, including as district sales manager, as sales & service manager, and in technical service.  Other positions he had held in the baking industry include bakery manager and bakery specialist.

Experience in both segments of the industry gives Dave a deep understanding regarding the viewpoints and needs of allied, as well as baker members.  Both groups are needed to promote the industry and build a better future for all.

WBA Member Services Center – Here to Serve You!

Milwaukee and the surrounding communities make up the largest metropolitan area in Wisconsin.  This area is filled with tourist attractions, colleges pro sports teams and an international airport (in addition to the approximately 1 million people who call this area home).

But, the next time someone mentions the various destinations in the Milwaukee area, why not make one of them your WBA Member Services Center?  Located off National Avenue in West Allis (which is conveniently located near near I-894), the WBA Member Services Center adds another benefit of being a WBA member.

Dave Schmidt, Executive Director of the WBA, is just one of the reasons to stop by.  He is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to the baking industry, having nearly 40 years of background in the industry under his belt.  Do you need more information about how to open a second bakery?  Or, maybe you need to know where to find the best bakery case for your product?  Give Dave a call!  If he doesn’t have the answer at his finger tips, he can refer you to someone who can help you!

Maybe you’re interested in finding a new formulation for your bakery!  Something to help WOW the tastebuds of your customers?  Are you looking for that next great recipe?  Again, the WBA Member Services Center is a great place to start.  The WBA library includes books of formulations, just waiting to be paged through.  If you can’t make it to Milwaukee, a phone call will do!

Now, you may be thinking, all of this is part of my membership?  You bet!  Let’s recap some of the information you can receive with one stop to the WBA Member Services Center:

                * Helpful information from Executive Director Dave Schmidt, CMB
                * Use of WBA Library of Information
                * Browse through recipe formulations
                * Borrow photos of bakery business from the past for promotional information (or to just learn more about the history of the WBA)
                * Place your advertising on the WBA Web site or in the newsletter.  Speaking of the newsletter, share your story with newsletter Editor Amy Behrendt.  Your story may end up in the newsletter!
                * Maybe you want to pay your dues.  Sure, you can always send them in the mail, but
Accounting/Administrative Coordinator Debbie Lowery is here to take them in person too!

                 * Want to know more about OCP Bakers, LLC the subsidiary associated with the WBA?  Or about anything related to the inner workings of the WBA?  Then Jessica Hoover, our WBA Administrative Office Coordinator is your contact!

All these great features are benefits of being a WBA member!  If you’re passing through or visiting Milwaukee on business, take a moment to stop by!  The WBA staff is on hand to provide information, a recipe or just to say hello.

And, if you have a question or comment for the WBA staff, give the hotline a call, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at (800) 542-2688.  During evenings and weekends, the voicemail is ready and waiting for your message, which will be returned on the next business day.  The WBA’s regular office hours are 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. CDT, Monday through Friday.
